French Bulldog Makes History As He Becomes A Mayor


A French bulldog has won the race to become the mayor of a small Kentucky town.

Wilbur Beast is a 6-month-old puppy who made history after racking up 13,143 votes, more than all of his canine predecessors, and becoming the new mayor of Rabbit Hash.

Rabbit Hash is a small town located in northern Kentucky. With a population of just 426 according to the 2018 Census, the town has been electing non-human candidates as mayors since 1988.

As a part of their election process, the town of Rabbit Hash allows participants from all over the world to vote for their mayor. To cast a ballot, each voter has to make a $1 donation which goes towards the town’s improvement.

This year, Wilbur Beast broke the town’s record as he received 13,143 votes out of a total of 22,985 votes cast. For comparison, Brynneth Pawltro, a rescue pit bull that won the race to become a mayor back in 2016, won with just 3,367 votes according to PEOPLE.

Joining Wilbur in leading the town will be pawmbassadors Jack Rabbit the beagle, who came in second with 2,936 votes, and Poppy the golden retriever, who came in third with 2,417 votes.

“It’s an exciting adventure and a deeply meaningful cause to preserve the river hamlet town of Rabbit Hash,” Amy Noland, Wilbur’s human ‘spokesperson’, told Fox News.

“The town welcomes visitors and will continue to provide fun events for all ages to come to experience the nostalgia and charm we have to offer.”

As Noland added in an interview with CNN, her dog has “done a lot of campaigning” and has been “all over social media” prior to his big win.
