A ‘dead’ dog came back to life and dug himself out of a shallow grave after his owners buried him.
Dik, 18, from eastern Russia, was found motionless on his blanket by his owners in the village of Novonikolsk, in Russia’s far eastern Primorsky Krai region.
He was then given a funeral by his owners who buried him in a shallow grave.
The dog then woke up and dug himself out of the shallow grave. He headed to a nearby motorway.
Dik was spotted lying by the road. A passerby took him to ‘Otkroi Svoe Serdtse’ (Open Your Heart) pet shelter.
The shelter employees shared pictures of Dik on their social media later.
When Dik’s owners came across the pictures, they were left stunned. They came to the pet shelter and took him back home.
Irina Mudrova, who is head of the shelter, said:
‘Dik’s owners thought that he was dead after failing to wake him up. Fortunately, they buried him not deep underground and he managed to get to the surface after regaining consciousness.’
‘His owners, two elderly sisters, came to take him home and cried. They were very grateful and donated 5,000 rubles (£60) to our shelter.’
Dik’s story went viral online. One person wrote: ‘I am crying because I am happy for Dik! He has such loving owners!’
Another said: ‘Once I almost buried my cat alive. I thought she died and started panicking. Luckily, she woke up before I buried her.’
