There was a time when traveling through the high seas was a risky affair where one faced many unknowns.
Not only did you have to concern yourself with pirates, but you could also just as easily die from disease or starvation if your ship was becalmed in the middle of nowhere! This risk largely went away with the advent of steamships although there were still spectacular disasters such as the Titanic.

But with the advent of airplanes, the seas are now more populated by oil tankers and container ships than passenger liners. There are enthusiasts who still travel the seas in sailboats but that’s just a minority of the seafaring population. However, cruise ships have proven to be extremely popular in this day and age.
Large cruise ships have gone a long way from the Titanic and passengers are safer and more comfortable than ever. This can allow for such perks as bringing one’s pet along for the trip.
In this case, we see Dallas, a Golden Retriever, who is along for the ride and clearly enjoying the view from the cruise ship’s balcony. Dallas is a smart and inquisitive dog which is why he’s always attracted to new sights. In this case, they were passing in San Juan when the pooch happened to be looking out.
The wonder of discovering new things is clearly not limited to humans as we can see from the expression on Dallas’ face.
Contrary to what you might think, although they bring to mind images of luxury, cruise ships are much more affordable than most vacations. In fact, some senior citizens prefer going on cruises than staying in retirement homes because it’s so much cheaper. At least on a cruise, they are pampered as they would be in a hotel and they get to see new sights in the bargain.
It’s certainly an alternative way to enjoy the vacation especially for people who believe that it’s the journey and not the destination that makes a trip enjoyable.
Thanks to modern technology, cruise ships can remain quite stable even if the waters get a little choppy. And with the availability of modern navigational methods, a ship can either stay in port if inclement weather is coming or divert to another port if necessary.
There will always be dangers but that has been mitigated to a large extent because of advances in shipbuilding and handling. And nothing beats the wonder of discovering something new as Dallas has clearly shown.
