A malnourished and scared dog walked into a family’s home during a storm, and they have decided to adopt her.
Jack Jokinen, a sports podcast host, explained that his wife woke him up at 4 am to tell him the surprising news.
While she was downstairs searching for a pacifier for their baby, she noticed ‘a puppy in our house.’
Jokinen then went downstairs and found all windows and doors were locked. The mystery went on until he watched their security footage.
After walking their dog George, Jokinen closed the door but ‘something didn’t catch as ‘the wind blew the door open’ when the storm hit their home.
Around 20 minutes after the stray pooch, who was ‘scared, limping, and malnourished’ walked into their home, a concerned stranger closed their door.
The family contacted Animal Control and were told they could either take the dog to the vet or surrender her to the system, but they chose to take the pooch to the vet.
They found out that the dog was 9 years old and had many health issues, including fleas, a missing pad on her foot, and damaged teeth.
The family decided to keep her and they have named her Suzy.
Jokinen also said that he would open a Venmo account for those who would like to ‘help with some of the medical costs’ but added that if they did not receive any donations, ‘we’re going to take care of her regardless.’
“We’re going to turn this negative into a positive for the holiday season,” he said. “I mean, we didn’t expect it, but out of all the bad things that could happen when your front door is open, to end up with a sweet dog who just needs a home … I mean, wow, this could have gone a lot worse.”
