There are many lines of popular dog foods that have recently been discovered to have euthanasia drugs.
Sadly, many dogs passed away after eating their nutritious meals.
Nikki Mael was left heartbroken after she gave a can of Evanger’s pet food to her five pooches. But within only 15 minutes, her cute dogs became sick and one of them died because of it.
Speaking to CBS 12, she said: “Nobody deserves to go through what we just went through. It’s just not fair. I mean, there is nothing that I won’t give just to see Talula again. They just kept falling over. They were running into walls, and they were even convulsing.”
After sending the rest of the dog food to a local laboratory, they discovered what caused the death of her dog.
“Apparently, it was poison from the dog food. That was what killed her,” Nikki expressed.
Tests revealed that the dog food had traces of Pentobarbital, a drug that is usually used for euthanizing cats, dogs, and horses. It is a serious violation of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act to put any kind of pentobarbital in the meal of pets.
The tests showed there was some drug in Evangers and Gravy Train, which is usually produced by Big Heart Pet Foods, owned by J. M Snucker’s.
The company also produces Meow Mix, Nature’s Recipe, Milk Bone, 9 Lives, Alley Cat, Snausages, Meaty Bone, Pup-Peroni, Kibbles’ N Bits, Pounce, Canine Cary Outs and Jerky Treats.
FDA released a statement on February 16: “It is possible for pets that are known to consume a lot of pet food which contain pentobarbital to experience excitement, dizziness, drowsiness, nausea, a loss of balance, nystagmus (a condition that is give in to the process where your eyes move back and forth in a jerk manner) as well as an inability to stand straight on its own.
“However, when a pet consumes pentobarbital as a rate that is high enough, it is possible for it to go into a coma or even die ultimately.”
J.M Snucker Company is calling back shipments of varieties and offerings, such as Gravy Train, Skippy Canned Dog, Ol’ Roy, and Kibbles N’ Bits.
The company released a statement regarding the issue and said: “According to findings which were done by the government, it has been found that the root cause of this problem to be a single supplier as well as a single, very minor ingredient, which are being used at the manufacturing plant.
“Above all, we are a company that is in love with pets, and we completely understand the responsibility that we have in providing high-quality foods that wound end up providing value as well as enjoyment for our clients as well as their pets.”
