A border collie has become one of the richest pooches in the world after inheriting her owner’s $5 million fortune.
8-year-old Lulu the dog instantly became a millionaire after her owner, Bill Dorris from Tennessee, stated in his will that $5,000,000 should be transferred to Lulu’s trust after his death.
“$5,000,000 will be transferred to a trust to be formed upon my death for the care of my border collie Lulu,” the will reportedly read. “This trust is to provide for all the needs of Lulu. The dog will remain in possession of Martha Burton.”
It is believed that the funds will now be available to Lulu through her new caretaker, Martha Burton, who has long been a good friend of Lulu and her former owner.
As Mr Dorris made sure prior to his passing, Lulu and Martha will not be able to spend all of the funds on treats, whereas the distribution of the money will be managed with the help of a conservator.
Among other constituents of the agreement, a part of the dog’s inherited money will be set aside for Lulu’s upkeep and other expenses such as potential medical bills.
“Well, he always left the dog for me to take care of,” Martha explained in an interview with News Channel 5 before admitting that Lulu is a good girl and that her owner loved her very much.
“I don’t really know what to think about it to tell you the truth. He just really loved the dog,” the 88-year-old added when asked how she felt about the fact that Dorris left millions to his dog.
