A carefully planned marriage proposal on a beach went ‘wrong’ after the dog wearing an important sign started chasing seagulls.
Ghost the pooch was given an important role when Mark decided to bring the love of his life to Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, to propose to her.
As Mark’s partner, Ashley Whiting, explained in an interview with The Dodo, Mark had planned a surprise proposal and brought dozens of friends and family members to the beach to witness the special moment.
In addition, he gave his dog Ghost a very important role – to deliver the sign that read “Mommy, will you marry Daddy?” when called.
“Mark got help from both my sister and his sister to set everything up. He also had about 25 of our friends and family there, including my 96-year-old grandpa, to see the proposal,” Ashley told The Dodo.
“What was supposed to happen is that Mark was going to whistle when we got to a certain spot, and they would release Ghost … with a sign around her neck that said: ‘Mommy, will you marry Daddy?’”
While the plan seemed perfect, no one expected Ghost to run and jump around like crazy after getting distracted by seagulls.
“When Mark whistled, they released Ghost and she came sprinting after me, and then veered off and started trying to catch seagulls that were flying around the beach,” Ashley added in an interview with The Dodo.
“Naturally, my focus went towards trying to control her. Mark had to grab my hand and get my attention before getting down on one knee and proposing.”
While the entire proposal spiraled out of control, Ashley believes the moment was hilarious and perfect. Needless to say, she had no doubts about giving her ‘yes’ to Mark. Good job, Ghost!
