A protective dog who loves taking care of other animals has been pictured cuddling with orphaned fawns that his owner rescued.
Sarge the German Shepherd is a tough-looking pooch with a gentle heart who loves to take care of animals that his owner, Cheryl Stephen, brings on their farm.
“We live on a little ‘farm’ in Ohio, but the animals here aren’t raised for food. They’re raised to be loved and cherished, like all animals should be,” Cheryl said according to Bored Panda.
“I’ve been bringing home strays since I was a little girl and I’ve never stopped. I have two sons and they are animal-lovers too.”
While it is mum’s job to rescue animals with no one to look after them, Sarge contributes to the common good by babysitting them and making sure they’re always watched over.
As Cheryl told Bored Panda, Sarge wasn’t a softie when they got him nine years ago. Allegedly, he was on the edgy side and loved biting toes until he met the family’s first rescue fawn.
“A family friend found a baby deer lying in the middle of a road. He watched and waited for the mom to return but she never did. He knew we were animal lovers, so the fawn was brought here,” the woman added in an interview with Bored Panda.
Since then, Sarge has taken over the role of a babysitter who keeps constant watch over rescue animals at the farm.
As the owner explained, they have so far rescued dozens of animals, including several dogs, a cow, a pony, a sheep, a goat, a rooster, and more.
“We aren’t an ‘official’ sanctuary and we don’t take donations. We just love animals,” Cheryl said.
Nowadays, the family continues taking care of those in need while sharing pictures of their precious moments on Instagram.
