You don’t want to be outdoor in Canada in the summers, that’s a sure thing.
This dog, however, didn’t know it and was found alone with a litter of five kittens, awaiting rescue for herself and the kittens.
The night was extremely cold and the dog had to cuddle the kittens with her body to keep them warm and alive.
The dog was spotted by an anonymous passerby who reported the incident to Pet and Wildlife Rescue shelter in Chatham-Kent, Ontario.
The shelter people wasted no time and immediately mobilized a team to the site. The team took the dog and the kittens to the shelter where they warmed them up and named the mama dog Serenity.
“Our stray sweetheart is keeping her ‘babies’ safe at the shelter tonight!” the rescuers wrote on Facebook.
The shelter workers said there’s an overwhelming number of requests that they have received for the adoption of two-year-old Serenity.
People are in love with the dog after her heroic act of saving the babies from the cold went viral.
The SOP of the rescue facility states that the dog would have to be in the shelter till December 3, after which she can be adopted.
According to Fox29, the kittens are receiving the necessary treatment required for worm and flea restoration.
The shelter’s Facebook page said the kittens are with someone for fostering before they can be put for adoption.
There’s no doubt that Serenity is profoundly in love with the kittens but she’s not going to the same home as the kittens.
“The shelter staff is concerned about getting backlash for not adopting me out with the kittens that I was found with,” the staff released the dog’s statement on their Facebook page.
“If they waited for the kittens to be ready that would mean that I wouldn’t have my forever family for a couple of months.
“At the end of the day, I am just happy that the kittens were found with me and are now resting peacefully in a warm foster home instead of outside in the cold.
“I love zooming around outside and will run circles around any person or object that is out in the yard with me. The shelter staff has been working on it, but I can be quite jumpy and need to be taught some manners.”
