Terrified Dog With Multiple Bullets Embedded In Its Skin Rescued From Sewer Drain

When a dog was found in a sewer drain, rescuers wondered how it ended up there.

Cowering in a small drain pipe in South Korea, the pooch appeared to be in pain. But it was difficult for rescuers to coax the hound out.

The scared dog stayed hidden even when offered a bowl of kibble. The pooch wore a collar, so it had an owner but she or he was nowhere to be found.

When rescuers talked to a man working on a construction site near the area, they discovered something about what happened to the dog.

The man told the rescuers: “There were hunters and the dog came down from the mountain in the afternoon.”

It seemed that the lost pup had belonged to a hunter. Rescuers started to wonder if the pooch had been abandoned or gotten lost during their hunting trip.

The team managed to enter the sewer through a manhole and pushed the canine out of the pipe. It was limping and seemed to be in great pain.

After gradually getting the dog’s trust, the rescuers lifted the dog out of the drain and brought it to the vet.

That’s when they received some tormenting news.

An x-ray revealed that the poor dog was suffering from numerous gunshot wounds. Bullets were embedded all over its body.

“The spread of a shotgun allows it to be used in wide, open spaces,” said the vet. “So we suspect that the shells all over the body are from a shotgun.”

Vets removed the bullet shells and the dog was given a chance to recover.

Police confirmed that they didn’t receive any missing dig reports matching the canine’s description. Rescuers think that the dog was probably abandoned after it was shot.

A Pohang gun dealer said to Kritter Klub: “If you go to a reed field, they shoot water deer. If a dog tags along, they could inadvertently get shot.”

The vet explained: “There are more than a few hunting dogs left in the mountains. Even the dogs that they raised . . . When they can’t deal any longer, they turn their backs on them.”

Despite the dog’s heartbreaking story, the darkest days are now behind, thanks to the rescuers’ kindness and diligence.

“The dog can recover quickly with adequate care,” the vet said.
