The following funny moment shows that just because you think you know what’s best for your pet doesn’t mean that your furry best friend agrees with you.
In most cases, humans do know what needs to be done because we’re the ones who can think and have the means (and technology) to do something about it. An example would be when our pet is sick and the veterinarian knows what medicines to give and what procedures to do.

In those cases, it doesn’t matter what our pet feels, we’ll just go ahead and do it because it’s best for them. But in the case of grooming, it’s the pet equivalent of going to the barbershop or beauty parlor. But those are in human terms and it’s not necessarily how our pets see it.
Such as the case when Ryan Puckett brought his dog Koda to the groomers. As the Samoyed/corgi cross stood on a table as he was being groomed at a doggy salon in Athens, Alabama, he gave Ryan such an aggrieved look that he had to take a picture.
Ryan said: “Koda looked at me as if to say ‘I can’t believe you’ve done this to me.’
“He did stay there the whole way through but did do a little bit of howling.”
There are several reasons why some of our pooches have a distaste for grooming, such as:
- They’re scared of the dryer’s loud sound.point 47 |
- Other barking dogs stress them out.point 77 |
- They feel confined in the kennel, especially if they usually have free rein on the house.point 151 |
- Simple separation anxiety.point 175 |
- They simply don’t like being handled by other people.point 226 |

The key is to talk to your groomer and find out any indicators that your dog is spooked or triggered by any of these factors.point 101 | In those cases, avoiding or removing any of those stressors may make the trip to the doggy salon a more enjoyable one for your pooch.point 210 | 1
It’s the least you can do. After all, your beloved dog gives you loads of happiness so it’s only fitting that you try to foster an environment that will give your pooch as much comfort and enjoyment as is reasonable.
