A one-year-old Lab mix was given a purple unicorn after he stole the stuffed toy five times from a Dollar General store in North Carolina.
When store owners called animal control services to take the adorable pooch away, the officer decided to buy the plush toy for him.
Duplin County Animal Control shared photos of Sisu the dog, showing the pooch hugging his new toy after his final attempt to steal it.
“This is what happens when you break into the dollar general consistently to steal the purple unicorn that you laid claim to but then get animal control called to lock you up for your B & E and larceny but the officer purchases your item for you and brings it in with you,” the department wrote on Facebook.
Sisu’s story quickly went viral and only hours later, he and his beloved purple unicorn found a new forever home.
Duplin County Animal Control Supervisor Joe Newburn said Samantha Lane, the officer who purchased the toy, was delighted to help the dog.
“This is something she’s always done,” Newburn expressed. “This isn’t something new to her, it’s just a different dog, but yes, she’s always doing this stuff for the animals.”
Dollar Genera’s corporate office also said in a statement that the company plans to donate pet food to Duplin County Animal Services.
“We are paws-itively thrilled that Sisu is enjoying his new toy! We are also grateful for Animal Control Officer Lane in helping to rescue him,” Dollar General wrote.
“To show our appreciation, we plan to provide the Duplin County Animal Services with a pet food donation and Officer Lane with a special thank you gift, as well as a few extra of Sisu’s beloved purple unicorns to his eventual adoptive family.”
