Dog Forced To Undergo Surgery After Eating Over Thirty Christmas Decorations

An unfortunate dog had to undergo surgery after gobbling down over thirty delicious Christmas decorations that were intended to be hung on the Christmas tree.

As 37-year-old Rachael Bulmer explained, she had prepared gingerbread Christmas decorations which she intended to hand on the tree with the help of plastic ribbons.

Little did the dog lover know, however, that her delicious decors would almost cost her pooch Marley his life.

“I had been baking gingerbread tree decorations, and left them in gift bags on the kitchen counter side, ready to give as Christmas treats,” the woman revealed.

“I thought I’d left them safely out of reach, but when I noticed some were gone, I instantly knew who had taken them. Over the years Marley’s been no stranger to eating things he shouldn’t and usually they pass through.”

While the 7-year-old doggie is no stranger to stealing treats, this time his condition was much worse most likely due to the fact that he swallowed not only 34 cookies but also over three dozens plastic ribbons that were attached to them.

“He was violently sick and brought up some of the ribbon,” Rachael added, claiming that her dog went into a shock.

After being rushed to the clinic, the veterinarians performed a “lengthy, high-risk surgery” in order to prevent potentially deadly blockages in Marley’s system.

“It was a lengthy, high-risk surgery. Marley’s chances of surviving the night were looking poor, so he was transferred to the out-of-hours provider, Vets Now, so he could be cared for overnight,” Aoife Clancy, a PDSA senior vet, explained.

“Thankfully he pulled through but needed critical round-the-clock care for four days before he could go home.”

Following the incident, Rachael put Marley on a “cage rest” in order to ensure he gets proper rest and stays away from temptation during his recovery.

The 37-year-old also thanked the vets responsible for saving Marley’s life for taking swift action.

“They went above and beyond for him and I will be forever grateful,” she added.

“We’ve not moved from his side now he’s finally at home, and even sleep next to him at night. He’s getting better and that’s the best Christmas present I could ever want.”
