An adorable dog who was abused by her past owners has gone viral after her tragic story captured the hearts of internet users.
Bubbles is a 3-year-old lively bull terrier mix who became an orphan when she was just months old after her former owner beat her up and shot her in the head.
Fortunately, the neglected pooch survived the ordeal and was given a second chance at life.
Fast forward nearly three years, Bubbles has recovered from her injuries, both mental and physical ones, and found a forever home with a Texas-based couple who owns a dog grooming business.
56-year-old Ike Blanchard and 51-year-old Kilyn Horton Blanchard first came across Bubbles in 2017 while volunteering at a dog shelter.
After discovering that her eye, jaw, and inner ear were severely damaged by the previous owner, the kind couple knew they were meant to take Bubbles in and give her the life she deserves.
Throughout Bubbles’ long recovery consisting of four demanding surgeries, Kilyn and Ike started documenting her journey and the pooch gained over 66K followers on Instagram.
“We were volunteering at a shelter after Hurricane Harvey hit Houston and so many animals were being brought into shelters,” Kilyn said as she recalled the time they met Bubbles.
“We were about to head home when we were introduced to a young six-month-old puppy that had suffered severe trauma. We were told that she had been shot in the head and when that didn’t successfully kill her she was beaten with a hammer.
“She was just lying in her kennel but the moment we opened it up she came out and buried her head into my chest and just wanted to be held. We knew instantly that we wanted to be a part of her life. We immediately signed up to be her medical fosters and picked her up a few days later.”
As the couple went on to say, Bubbles had to undergo a series of medical procedures before her life was out of danger.
“I am very proud of Bubbles. She has always been so loving and trusting but we took her out to be around people so she would not develop any fears of the outside world. Her attitude is absolutely amazing considering what she has been through. She loves everyone and really craves their attention,” Kilyn added.
“After her recovery, her true spirit and energy really began to show. She loves every person she meets and wants to play with every dog she meets. She does not seem to carry any reminders of her past, or hold any grudges, she has put it far behind her and lives her life to the fullest.”
