A Dog’s Tongue Almost Split After It Got Stuck To A Rubber Ball


A couple was left in shock when they saw their dog’s tongue nearly cut in half after it got stuck to a rubber ball toy.

After the horrific incident, she was not able to eat or drink properly.

Helen and James Hartley, pet owners brought her into Foxhall Veterinary Clinic in Ruskington, Lincs. Vets stitched up her tongue that was dangling by only a central thread of flesh.

Helen said online: “It was really traumatic for us all. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for looking after Poppy.

“She’s been so well-loved by everybody at the surgery and we couldn’t have asked for a more dedicated team.

“Well done to you all, Poppy sends sloppy kisses.”

When the couple returned home from work earlier this month, have noticed that her tongue got stuck in the air hole of a rubber dog ball. After seeing her strange behavior they took her to Foxhall Veterinary Clinic in Ruskington, Lincolnshire.

While checking her tongue, Nurses noticed that the front half of Poppy’s tongue was swollen and they saw a red line where the ball had affected the blood flow.

Aside from the marking, her tongue was pink and warm to the touch and Poppy was happy to eat treats so she was given medication to manage the swelling and booked in for daily check-ups.

The surgery was successful, and her tongue was pink and warm to the touch. Everyone seems happy to see that Poppy was happy to eat treats so he was given medication to heal the swelling. She was told to come for daily check-ups too.

The red line started changing into bruising in one week course, it started to smell foul and white plaques appears on top.

Vets removed all the dead tissue during the surgery and Poppy’s tongue was stitched back together.

A Foxhall Veterinary Clinic spokesperson said: “The surgery was successful and our nurses couldn’t believe it when Poppy ate and drank as soon as she woke up.

“We’re happy to report that Poppy’s tongue has pretty much healed now, she is using her tongue normally to drink and can still give plenty of kisses.

“The stitches are in place but will eventually dissolve.
