A loyal dog walked over thirty miles to return home after getting left behind by its owner by accident.
The incident happened in eastern China where Mr. Qui and his family were on a trip to the countryside to visit their relatives together with their 7-year-old dog Dou Dou.
As the Qianjiang Evening News reported, the family stopped at the Tong Lu Service Station for a short break after getting 37 miles away from their home.
According to Mr. Qui, the family believed that Dou Dou stayed inside their car as they exited the vehicle while watching over their little child.
Assuming that the dog was still inside the car upon their return, they continued with their trip until they realized that Dou Dou was missing several hours later.
On the following day, the family returned to the station where they took a break in an attempt to find their missing pooch. After two hours of unproductive search and several consequent visits to the station, the family decided to give up on ever seeing Dou Dou again.
“[We] hoped it would survive and find a good-hearted person who would adopt it,” the man said in an interview with Qianjiang Evening News.
Almost one month after the dog’s disappearance, Dou Dou reportedly appeared on the family’s doorstep after a long 37-mile walk from the station where it went missing.
“Apart from being skinner than before, [it] was still the same self. Its eyes are radiating with lights,” Mr. Qiu added.
“Luckily it didn’t have any injuries. Even though Dou Dou was tired and walking wobbly on the first day [after his return], it has become a lot more energetic recently.”
