A dog who got his weight doubled after consuming loads of cheesy Doritos will now have to follow a strict diet plan to survive.

Skylar, whose loving owners can’t turn down her request, has gained almost double than what is defined average normal weight for a Jack Russel.

Four-year-old adorable dog gorges on almost every eatable in her sight, especially cheese-flavored Doritos. The 22lbs pup doesn’t even spare the food of other dogs in the house.

Unfortunately, the food-lover pup has developed some serious health issues including breathing problems due to consuming a surplus amount of unsuitable food.

So from now on, she will have to survive on carrots instead of her favorite crisps as the vet has advised her owner Mandy Hannigan to be strict on her diet.

Speaking about how difficult it is to refuse the dog, Mandy, 59, said: “Skylar eats absolutely everything, and it’s very difficult to say no when she gives you those puppy-dog eyes.

“She absolutely loves Doritos – she would eat about 1/3 of a bag every time I’d had some, which would be a few times a week.

“She also eats mini Cheddars, Hula hoops, pickled onions, sausages, you name it.”

Well, it’s not only Mandy who’s responsible for spoiling Skylar’s eating habits.

“My neighbor calls her twice a day and gives her leftover meat, biscuits, cheese so now she’s been banned to give her anything now,” Mandy revealed.

“I want to help her lose weight for the sake of her health and happiness, so I’ve entered Skylar into Pet Fit Club and we are hoping to be selected as one of the lucky competitors.

“The PDSA reckons she needs to lose half her body-weight so our goal now is 11lbs.”

Though Mandy herself was nourishing her dog with healthy food, she couldn’t just figure out that the naughty pup was consuming her snacks with her in a surplus amount.

Now, Skylar would have to follow a relatively tough lifestyle. Besides eating just carrots, she’ll have to go for a walk daily.

“Skylar just loves to snack. She is very determined when she wants something,” said Mandy.

The woman, from Solihull, West Midlands, explained: “Over Christmas she somehow managed to find a box of Ferrero Roches I had hidden with other presents, break into the plastic and eat all of them.

“We were really concerned but thankfully she was alright. We know we need to be more active, but it’s difficult because she doesn’t like long walks.

“I realized she needed to get on a diet because people commented on her weight all the time, ‘Oh she is so fat’ and she started to get a bit breathless and struggling to jump up the sofa.

“She still sits by the side of me when I eat something, I just have to ignore her.”

Skylar is now competing in a weight-loss competition launched by PSDA. To win the competition, the pooch has to adhere to a 6-month diet as well as perform specified exercises.
