100 dogs covered in feces and fleas have been rescued by a dog rescue agency loved by celebrities like Jennifer Aniston, Chrissy Teigen, and Ellen DeGeneres.
Wagmor Pet Hotel & Spa received a call about dogs in the yard of a home that needed help.
But when workers arrived at the trailer home in Bakersfield, they found 100 dogs living in filthy conditions covered in fleas and feces, corpses of dead dogs, and a rotting garage.
Melissa Bacelar, the owner of Wagmor Pets, told Daily Mail: “As we walked through the property more and more dogs crawled out of garbage piles, I was overwhelmed. I was physically sick.
“The worst part of the search was in the back shed. Puppy corpses lined the floors. A nursing mama dog stood barking at us protecting her dead puppies.
“The smell coming from it was so strong I could barely breathe.”
Bacelar said that when she tried to help a mother dog securing her dead babies, the person who called her to the property screamed.
“I turned to see a dead dog lying on a trash heap,” she said.
A woman then came out of the trailer, her feet caked in feces.
“They said that they saved them and it got out of hand,” Bacelar shared. They also said that Animal Control had been to the property but could not help with the overflow of dogs.
They agreed to let Wagmor Pets take the animals to find forever homes for them.
“I wrangled as many dogs as I could and called my team. The next day my manager, Ellie Moser and a volunteer went. They went into the house. Ellie said the house was uninhabitable,” Bacelar said.
“There was no running water. There were 10-20 dogs. There was dogs and human feces everywhere. She said the floors were covered.”
She added: “The woman that lives there is in danger and we plan to help her next. But our goal was to get every dog out. Some are sweet. Some are scared.
“We have nine pregnant and nursing moms. Endless puppies. Endless dogs. I’m writing this and thinking that nine months ago I only had the ability to rescue five to six dogs a week. This week I saved 100.”
Many of the pooches are now up for adoption on the Wagmor Pets website.
