Two dogs were praised by rescue teams after they saved a 71-year-old man who collapsed while they were on a mountain trail in Cumbria, England.
The elderly man’s dogs were so excited to explore outside when he was suddenly struck with a medical emergency. He suffered from a seizure and collapsed.
Fortunately, the pooches knew exactly what to do to save their owner.
Realizing their owner’s distress, the two dogs immediately sprang into action.
Rescuers said that a black Labrador ran after another hiker they had recently passed, ‘trying to get her to return.’ She then followed the dog and saw a golden retriever lying next to the man.
The Keswick Mountain Rescue Team wrote: “Incredibly one of his dogs, a black Labrador, ran after the passing walker, barking to get her attention and tried to get her to return, which she duly did. She found the other dog, a golden retriever, lying by the unconscious man.”
By the time rescuers arrived, the man had already regained consciousness and was well enough to walk to the ambulance.
“She phoned 999 for assistance and by the time the team had arrived the man had regained consciousness, and after an assessment by a team medic he was able to walk down the hill to an awaiting ambulance,” Keswick Mountain Rescue Team continued.
“Many thanks to the passing walker and the amazing dogs.”
The Keswick Mountain Rescue Team told The Dodo: “I was pretty amazed when the story unfolded during the rescue. You occasionally hear about this sort of thing, but never expect to hear it firsthand.”
The elderly man was taken to the hospital for further checkups.
