Donald Trump is getting sued for inciting insurrection and encouraging the mob that stormed the US Capitol.
In a suit against the former US President, two Capitol police officers accused Trump of “inflaming” and “directing” the mob with his Stop The Steal rhetoric.
As the two cops claimed, they suffered “physical and emotional injuries” as MAGA mob descended on the government building.
“The insurrectionists were spurred on by Trump’s conduct over many months in getting his followers to believe his false allegation that he was about to be forced out of the White House because of massive election fraud,” the suit, which was filed at a Washington federal court, reads.
“The insurrectionist mob, which Trump had inflamed, encouraged, incited, directed, and aided and abetted, forced its way over and past the plaintiffs and their fellow officers, pursuing and attacking them.”
According to Officer Hemby, who has served in law enforcement for 11 years, he was attacked with chemical sprays and suffered knee and hand injuries while trying to stop the mob from entering the restricted building.
Meanwhile, 17-year Capitol Police veteran Officer Blassingame insisted he has been suffering mentally ever since the January event. He also suffered head and back injuries and claimed to have been a victim of racism during the insurrection.
As the lawsuit argues, Blassingame was left “haunted by the memory of being attacked, and of the sensory impacts – the sights, sounds, smells and even tastes of the attack remain close to the surface.”
The suit also goes on to claim that Hemby “has struggled to manage the emotional fallout from being relentlessly attacked.”
Among other points of interest, the lawsuit lists a series of instances in which the former president allegedly incited the insurrection and directed the mob to descend on the Capitol.
