Staff at the British Heart Foundation in Largs, North Ayrshire, said that most of the items they received still had their tags attached.
Among the items they got was a white Jacques Vert dress. Another one was a Viyella coat. The women’s items are available in sizes 12, 14, and 16.
The donation also included homeware and kitchen items.
All of these came from the family of a local woman who passed away from a heart attack and decided to donate her belongings to the charity. The family has requested anonymity.
According to branch manager Glynnis Whannel, the donation is the biggest the Largs branch has ever received.
She went to the donating family to help pack up the mind-boggling number of items.
Glynnis said: “It’s a lady who died and her husband contacted us and asked if we wanted the donation.
“There’s a whole lot of dresses, then there’s skirts, blouses, shoes, and handbags that match the dresses.
“She’s also given us a lot of bric-a-brac – we’re getting a lot of books and kitchen stuff.”
Glynnis also described the quality of some of the items as “incredible.”
She said: “The Largs shop hasn’t seen this much before, not this quantity or this quality.
“The quality is incredible – 99 percent of it’s still got tags on, and most of the ones that don’t have tags on are pretty much brand new.
“It must be worth tens of thousands.
“It’s modern stuff.”
She was also thankful to the family for their generous donation.
She said: “We’re forever grateful – it goes towards research.
“It’s just incredible a donation.
“I can’t believe there are so many people that can be so kind.
“It’s been tough for the family, but I’m also appreciative of what they’ve done.”
She added: “Without the help of volunteers we wouldn’t have been able to process this stock – I’m in awe of these people.
“If there’s anybody else who would like to help out and join the team, they’re more than welcome.”
James Jopling, head of BHF Scotland, said: “Our life-saving research is only made possible thanks to generous donations like this and we are very grateful.
“Heart and circulatory diseases claim the lives of nearly three in ten of us in Scotland, and there are around 700,000 people living with these conditions every day, so we still need to do more.
“Wonderful donations to our shops like this enable our vital work to continue and we cannot thank the donors enough.”
