We believe we can do whatever we like to do at our house.
Simply because we live in that place, right? Be it laughing, playing, and crying out loud, bang your head on the wall or anything like that. But it looks like it cannot be the same anymore.
Yes, it is a law that says a person who is being disturbed by their neighbor’s activity can complain about the scene to make it stop right there but did you know, crying, arguing and banging on the walls of your own house falls under the same category and you can be fined up to $2,500.
This law was introduced by the local community council in order to protect people from disturbing the everyday lives of their neighbors.
When Prime Minister Theresa May was Home Secretary in 2014 that is when she introduced the law. The law applies to every person that is above the age of 16.
The law says that if you do anything that can disturb the peace of your neighbors including crying, arguing or banging on the walls, that is audible beyond the border of your property then the local council can interrupt you and make you stop by charging a fine.
By far, the council has only received one such complaint back in 2015. The council says that they will first issue a CPN and then if the right actions are not taken, only then the fine would come.
On the spot fine will be £100 and if the case goes to prosecution then it can be charged up to $2,500.
If the same complaint comes out of a business then it can be charged up to a whopping amount of $20,000.
So now you know what you have to avoid doing at home if you do not wish to pay a fine.
