A young mother is revealing a hearbreaking incident that nearly took away her 11-day old baby’s life and now, she wants others to be aware of the dangers associated with kissing newborns.
Lucy Kendall and her husband Jaz Miller couldn’t wait for their precious bundle of joy to arrive. And when their beautiful newborn son entered this world, the couple just couldn’t control their excitement. Friends and loved ones arrived one by one to try and catch a glimpse of the little baby boy but little did the couple know about the horror that awaited them in the next few days.
Little Oliver was just 11 days old when he suddenly developed a life-threatening condition.
In less than two weeks of his existence, the young baby was fighting for his life, after he was diagnosed with cold sores.According to health experts, these are usually spread from people to people contact and that means a small kiss to a newborn may result in a virus-based condition.
This was definitely not the type of news that any new parent wants to hear. Lucy and Jaz were devastated and shocked beyond belief. Just days ago they were celebrated little Oliver’s arrival and now, they were told to pray for his survival.
The parents claim that Oliver stopped eating and had an uncontrollable fever. Worried as ever, his parents rushed to the nearby hospital’s emergency department, only to find out the worst.
The 11-day old baby was immediately put on in the HDU or high dependency unit. At first, doctors weren’t sure what was the matter as they ran a couple of tests to confirm his diagnosis. He had neonatal herpes that took place as a result of someone with cold sores kissing their child.
Since neither parent had the condition, it was obvious that Oliver contracted it from another loved one. While young Oliver did manage to survive by the skin of his teeth, he had to live in the hospital for nearly three weeks. And when he went home, he further had to undergo treatment that lasted for nearly six months.
Now, this couple is making sure other parents don’t suffer the pain that they had to endure over time. For this reason, they’re using their real-life example to raise awareness about neonatal herpes and the great dangers it poses for newborn children.
