Splashing water from washing chicken under a tap can spread the bacteria onto hands, work surfaces, apron, and the cooking equipment.
Isn’t it too surprising that this frequent hygienic practice is actually causing more uncleanliness? Read up to dip into the perfect logic which experts give in their defense.
Packed with Campylobacter
Campylobacter is bacterium recognized as one of the main cause of diarrhea and infection in the digestive tract. Not only in pregnant women but it also causes abortion in animals. Raw meat and unpasteurized milk are packed with this bacterium.
The illness usually goes after one week but that doesn’t mean to take these fatal germs lightly because they can cause serious conditions which can lead to death as well.
Getting Sick from Salmonella
Another group of bacteria contained in raw chicken which can cause cross contamination on washing the raw chicken is Salmonella. Typhoid, food poisoning, diarrhea, and digestive tract infections are all the type of illnesses caused by this bacterium.
This type of bacteria is usually known to be present in the gut of infected human or animal. At the highest risk are children and aged people having weaker immune systems.
So according to the experts, in order to get rid of both of these deadly microorganisms, it is safer to cook the raw chicken without washing it with water. Well-cooked meat under high temperature can do the job of killing all the bacteria done.
