The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce honored Dr.
Phil McGraw with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame last Friday during a ceremony in Los Angeles.
This was the 2,688th star to be offered by Hollywood.
The official ceremony for honoring Dr. Phil was hosted by Hollywood movie star Tyler Perry and country music singer and songwriter Ronnie Dunn.
Phil attended the ceremony along with his family. His wife was so much excited about the whole thing that she kissed him during the event.
Phil’s eldest son Jay, the CEO of Stage 29, also attended the event with his wife Erica and their children, London and Avery.
Jordan, Phil’s youngest son, who is a popular musician, was not able to make it to the ceremony as he is with the Jonas Brothers in Paris.
In attendance at the event were Phil’s friends including Sheryl Underwood, Dr. Travis Stork, Carla Pennington, Dr. Andrew Ordon as well as a large crowd of fans.
Dr. Phil started his speech on the podium by thanking his beloved wife, saying: “She’s believed in me for 46 years. She is not just an observer she’s such a vital part of that show.”
Then he thanked Oprah for mentoring him and making him a better TV person, saying: “There would be no Dr. Phil without Oprah.”
Phil also paid his regards to producer Carla Pennington, who is one of the people working with him since the beginning, and gave a huge shout-out to “the best team in television.”
He also acknowledged the support he got from his mom over all the years of his career in the TV industry.
At the same time, he made clear that his father never believed in him, saying: “Dad if you’re listening and naysayers along the way I just wanna tell you a story. I made it. End of story.”
“To everyone, else ain’t life grand.”
In the end, he dispensed some advice to the crowd, saying: “Don’t miss the journey. Star in your own life and drink it in. I am taking my own advice and I am drinking it in.”
Dr. Phil told DailyMail after the event: “One of the first things I remember about Hollywood is the Walk of Fame from when I was 10 or 12-years-old.
“I remember seeing it in a movie from Fred Astaire or somebody. And, us being not from Hollywood, it just is one of those things that is a real legacy and to be part of it is really amazing.”
“So, we had a lot of fun with it. You know it really reminds you of your mortality because that star will be there long after I’m gone,” Phil added with a smile.
His wife said the ceremony was a very happy thing for her family.
She said: “Today brought it all home for me. You know, we’ve been here 18 years, yes, but I felt really at home today because he was being honored with this star.
“I’ve always believed he deserved it and now I know everyone knows and believes he deserves it. It’s just been a beautiful day for him and I am so proud of him.”
