‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ queen Chi Chi DeVayne has passed away at the age of 34 after being hospitalized for pneumonia.
Following the TV personality’s hospitalization at a clinic in Shreveport, Louisiana, Chi Chi, who was born as Zavion Davenport, succumbed to his disease.
The RuPaul’s Drag Race Alum’s death was announced by his family in an official statement shared on the world-renowned star’s Instagram page.
“On behalf of the Davenport/Wyandon family, it is with tremendous sorrow that my family and I announce the passing of my beloved son Zavion Michael Davenport, the world renowned ‘Chi Chi DeVayne,’” the announcement read.
“Out of respect for the immediate family, please await additional information and directives regarding the final arrangements, memorials, and the method to remit condolences and expressions of kindness.
“His final words to his family and fans, ‘Never give up!’”
The famous drag queen’s death follows one month after Chi Chi had a kidney biopsy due to suspected kidney failure and correlated high blood pressure.
Previously, in February, DeVayne opened up about his health issues and told Hey Qween that he’s suffering from a chronic connective tissue disease known as scleroderma. The incurable illness results in hardening and tightening of the skin and tissue forms that impair internal organs.
Following Chi Chi’s premature death, fans and supporters paid tribute to the drag queen who won the 4th place in RuPaul’s Drag Race season 8 and 8th place in RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars season 3.
“I am heartbroken to learn of the passing of Chi Chi DeVayne. I am so grateful that we got to experience her kind and beautiful soul,” RuPaul, the creator of RPDR, expressed.
“She will be dearly missed, but never forgotten. May her generous and loving spirit shine down on us all.”
