On Drake’s Instagram account, he finally posted photos of his son Adonis saying he was missing his “beautiful family and friends” and was excited about reuniting with them.
But before his March 30 post, Adonis’ existence was kept a secret. Drake only acknowledged his son after rapper Pusha T came out with a diss track that outed Drake for being a father. In Drake’s 2018 album Scorpion, he rapped on the “March 14” track: “I wasn’t hiding my kid from the world, I was hiding the world from my kid.”
Sophie Brussaux, Drake’s ex, gave birth to Adonis in 2017. But Drake wasn’t sure the boy was his so he had a DNA test performed. Twice.
During a Rap Radar interview from December last year, Drake explained: “To be honest with you, I did a DNA test for my son and it came back to us and it said the DNA test got ruined in transit and they couldn’t be 100 percent sure that that was my son or not.
“So, I was in a really weird pending situation where I didn’t want to go tell the world that that was my son and it wasn’t.”
His son’s blonde hair, blue eyes, and fair skin gave him doubts and he added: “If you see my son you understand why.”
Drake continued: “He’s a stunning child you know, with the brightest blue eyes and at the time I was like ‘I don’t know’.
“It actually wasn’t until a week before the album came out that I got confirmation that that was definitely my son.
“It took me two more solid [DNA] tests with two different companies.”
Following Drake’s public acknowledgment of Adonis, Brussaux joked that she and her ex are secretly natural blondes.
She wrote: “Thanking God every day for blessing me with such a beautiful family and amazing friends. I wish that much on everyone, keep safe and positive, sending a lot of positive vibes to the world.”
The last photo in the carousel had been Photoshopped to make it seem she and Drake had bleached-blonde hair. Brussaux jokingly reacted by saying: “PS: all this time you thought @champagnepapi was dark-haired… but Adonis’s parents are really blonde.”
