Instead of serving regular drinks to its customers, the science-themed bar offers impressive neon-colored cocktails, which the bartenders prepare by molecular mixology.
The owner and founder of Viscosity, Kinsey Johnson, spent more than a decade to launch her unique bar.
“I started experimenting with vaporized alcohol and immediately became fascinated with the different ways alcohol could be presented and consumed,” the 33-year-old told Story Trender.
“I started small and slowly learnt methods used in different areas of chemistry using them to bring my ideas to fruition,” she added.
Kinsey says the colorful drinks are way harder to prepare than they seem.
“Although it seems like magic, it’s just a lot hard work, we spend a similar amount of time at work outside of trading hours as we do during a service, I think that’s something which a lot of people won’t see,” she said.
“Due to the specialty nature of our drinks we have to import ingredients and then make our own house mixes which means we can’t just go shopping to get something if it’s running low, so our week starts on a Tuesday around noon where we start prepping for the weekend to make sure everything is made with the level of precision it requires.
“Throughout the week we’re also thinking about the weekly special and designing the custom shot glasses, by service on Thursday the custom glasses arrive and we do restocking and double checking that everything is completely backed up and ready to go.”
Kinsey says her bar receives all kinds of customers, and not just fun-loving youth.
She said: “Although we’re bright and colorful we get all kinds of customers, on a Friday the work crowd come in for end of the week drinks before the night kicks off, girls coming in for the Thursday night catch-up, or the couples of all ages who drop in on a Sunday to have an after dinner ice-cream.”
