A 51-year-old truck driver from California posted a heartbreaking message on Facebook one day before he passed away from Covid-19.
Tommy Macias from Los Angeles said he contracted the infection at a party after lockdown restrictions were eased.
He wrote on Facebook: “Some of you know, but most don’t. I f***** up and went out a couple of weeks ago and I contracted the corona virus.
“Monday I tested for it and it was confirmed on Thursday. Because of my stupidity I put my mom and sisters and my family’s health in jeopardy. This has been a very painful experience.”
He continued: “This is no joke. If you have to go out wear a mask and practice social distancing. Don’t be a f****** idiot like me.
“Thank you to all my friends that have brought me food, and to everyone who has been there for me. Hopefully with God’s help I’ll be able to survive this.
“Love you all.”
Sadly, Macias passed away one day later.
His brother-in-law, Gustavo Lopez, told NBC that Macias was following the rules from March until June. But after the restrictions were eased, Macias attended a party at Lake Elsinore.
However, a friend who had tested positive for Covid-19 and knew about it also went to the party, believing he couldn’t infect others as he didn’t show any symptoms.
As soon as Macias developed symptoms, the infected friend told people who attended the party about his diagnosis. More than a dozen of them have tested positive for coronavirus.
Macias’ family and friends remembered him as a big-hearted man who was always ready to help people in need.
