A delivery driver found an intruder in her car after leaving it unattended for only five minutes.
Lauren Kasdan was delivering meals in a quiet neighborhood at around 11 pm and was expecting a quiet night like usual.
When she jumped out of the car to hand over a package to someone, she left her car unguarded for two or three minutes.
But when she returned to her vehicle, there was already an adorable cat waiting in the passenger seat!
Speaking to The Dodo, Lauren said: “I thought I was hallucinating for a second. It was hard to process. There was just … a cat. In my car.”
Because her front windows were partially open, the feline had seen it as an opportunity to jump inside and hope for the best.
Lauren returned to her car and was shocked to find the cute animal she later named Athena.
“She acted like she was supposed to be there,” Lauren said.
“She was sniffing around the seat and my middle console like she belonged there. When I came back, she was just like, ‘Oh, hey! Is this your car? It’s nice and warm.’ She didn’t spook or try to run. She actually climbed onto my lap and started purring and making biscuits on my legs.”
Athena was dirty, thin, and covered in fleas, so Lauren decided to take her as there was no way she could leave her on her own.
She drove to Walgreens and purchased some cat food and went to her mother’s house to get the sweet feline settled in.
“I ran the bath, put her in gently, and she settled almost immediately,” Lauren shared said.
“She was meowing pretty loudly at first, but when I started scrubbing her with the flea and tick shampoo, she settled in and started purring … When I got her out, I wrapped her up in a towel, and she fell asleep like that in my arms.”
As soon as Lauren’s mother met Athena, she realized how sweet she was.
Athena is now happy in her new loving home. When she jumped into Lauren’s vehicle that night, she had no idea that her life was about to change for good!
