A food delivery driver, who works for Whites Transport Services Limited, was on the verge of giving up after being “treated like an animal” while delivering food in the UK when an old lady’s wave stopped him from giving up.
David Crossley, from Rochdale, has been living away from his family for seven weeks amid coronavirus pandemic.
The father-of-two, who delivers groceries, was refused to use service station toilets and showers amid coronavirus crisis.
He was missing his two children – Emily Grace, seven and Oakley, four – and was crying every night before he decided to quit.
He told The Mirror: “That day I was on the verge of giving up. I was ready to ring work and say ‘I’m ready to go home. I’m at my end.”
“I’ve had a nightmare. Some services won’t let you use the shower or toilet. They treat you like an animal.”
But, when David was heading to Grimsby to deliver groceries, he saw a 91-year-old woman on the M180 bridge waving at him.
He said the lady reminded him of his grandma who is in isolation and he’s unable to meet her.
The kind gesture of the elderly lady stopped him from giving up.
David said: “Then I saw this old lady in a fluffy cardigan going for it with the two full hands. I had a lump in my throat.”
“I thought I’m putting food on the table for people like that, for that old lady so I’ve got to carry on. I put on the full beam and my special horns for her.”
David then tracked down the kind lady and delivered flowers and chocolates to say thank you to her.
They even talked on the phone and thanked each other.
He took help on Facebook to find the lady and her granddaughter, Sarah Bowers, replied to his post: “It’s my grandma Eva Bowers, she’s 91. She lives just down the road from the bridge and likes to go and wave as she can’t see any friends or family.”
When Eva was asked about her kind gesture, she said she loves giving joy to people, and waving at them makes her day.
David said Eva’s small gesture of kindness made him feel he was doing the right thing as he’s putting food on people’s tables so he decided to carry on.
