A funeral procession was directed to a hospital after the driver of the hearse heard ‘muffled cries’ and strange noises coming from the coffin.
The funeral of the 65-year-old Argentinian woman, who passed away in Buenos Aires, was diverted to a hospital after family members accompanying her thought they heard muffled cries and banging noises coming from the casket.
They went to a nearby hospital so that doctors could check if the woman inside the coffin was still alive.
Video footage showed a doctor, the woman’s family, and several hospital staff gathering around the back of the hearse to check the body.
After hearing the muffled cries and banging coming from the coffin, family members diverted to the Hospital Blas L. Dubarry to have the body checked again.
But the doctor who inspected the corpse confirmed that the woman had been dead for at least 24 hours.
The funeral company released a statement saying the driver heard ‘loud noises’ coming from the coffin. It is presumed the family members were mistaken in what they heard or that the body was releasing sounds caused by the stiffening of muscles controlling the vocal chords or a build-up of gases.
