Felix Cueva, drug dealer, had jumped out of his truck to shoot at a police officer who was a father-of-three, killing him on the spot after he was being chased for forty miles.
Video footage has been released of the criminal, 39, stepping out of his pick up truck with the weapon, the AR-15, and shot at officer Darrian Jarrott who was located on the other side of Cueva’s vehicle.
Jarrott was only 28, falling to the ground after the first shot before being shot several times, including a bullet to his head. He took off, the dash cam of the police officer reveals the tragedy.
Jarrott stopped Cueva, finding out that he had a “violent criminal history” that included drug charges. His pick up truck was also found to have tinted windows on the vehicle, which blocks viewers from knowing what is inside the truck.
When he first stepped up to the window, Jarrott stated in a calm manner, “Good afternoon, sir. My name is Darrian Jarrott. I’m with New Mexico State Police. The reason for the stop is your window tint is a little too dark.”
He continues to ask Cueva, “Yeah, mind if I open the door? Or if you ant to roll down the window more,” asking for insurance and then noticing his rifle, continues with “You have a firearm on you, do you mind if I take that off you, for my own safety?”
This then sparked the murderous act, an AR-15 rifle was now pointed at Jarrott’s head and he did not have time to escape. Jarrott shouts, “Oh sh**,” before being hit by one of the bullets.
The criminal doesn’t shoot him just once, but multiple times and leaves his body on the side of the road. A Homeland Security Investigations agent arrives on the scene to notify officials that Jarrott was down, and then a chase ensued for 40 miles by the US Border Patrol, New Mexico State Police, and the Cruces Police Department.
After the 40 mile chase, the criminal is seen, lying on the floor next to his vehicle as officials point their weapons at him. There are dozens of shots fired, even police officer Adrian De La Garza was wounded in the open fire and was flown to the hospital after the event occurred.
Jarrott was a father of three and his partner is currently pregnant. He was a part of the force since 2015.
The criminal had been involved with many felonies, include drug trafficking and drug related incidents that are under his belt. Cueva was arrested and found with not only his assault rifle, but a bag full of methamphetamine that was worth $252,000.
The community sends out their prayers and condolences to Officer Jarrott, commenting that “Words cannot express the depth of gratitude we owe to those who risk their lives for our protection, and we stand with the entire law enforcement community in grieving this tragic loss,”
