Frankie Banali, the American rock drummer best known for his role in the heavy metal band Quiet Riot, has passed away at the age of 68.
The drummer’s death was announced in a statement by his wife, Regina, who confirmed that the idol died in Los Angeles on Thursday. According to Regina, Banali was surrounded by his loved ones at the time of his passing.
“He put up an inspiringly brave and courageous 16-month battle to the end and continued playing live as long as he could,” the statement obtained by USA TODAY read.
Back in April 2019, the rocker was given just several months to live after being diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer.
Following the life-changing diagnosis, Banali often provided his fans and loved ones with updates in regards to his condition. Despite treatment, the drummer’s health continued to degrade, and “chemotherapy stopped working.”
“He lived for playing live and performed for millions of fans around the world throughout his career,” Regina added in her statement.
“… His wish for everyone is that you be your own health advocate for early detection so you may live long and rescue many animals.”
The iconic drummer made his debut with Quiet Riot back in 1983 when the band released their third studio album called Metal Health. The collection later became the first metal album to secure the first spot on the Billboard 200.
During his career in the music industry, Banali worked on twelve of the band’s albums, including their most recent album, Hollywood Cowboys, which was released in 2019.
Throughout his career, the drummer also had a series of prominent stints with rock and heavy metal bands including the likes of Faster Pussycat and W.A.S.P.
