Two friends managed to break their legs after getting drunk and sneaking into a waterpark in the middle of the night.
44-year-old Barry Douglas and 46-year-old Claire Vickers are not only good friends but also partners in mischief who ended up in the emergency room after sneaking into Aldershot Lido public swimming pool complex in Aldershot, England.
One unfortunate night last month, Claire and Barry decided to crawl under the fence of the pool complex after having a tad too much to drink. Full of youthful spirit, the pair went on to try out a water slide at 2 am.
Though they had nothing but good intentions, the two friends would soon come to regret their decision after slamming into the barrier that was blocking the bottom part of the slide.
In the process, Barry and Claire suffered broken bones in their legs and feet. To make matters even worse, they had to scream for help for two agonizing hours before first responders finally arrived.
“We’re idiots – let that be a lesson,” Vickers admitted after the unfortunate stunt.
“I couldn’t think straight as the pain was excruciating. It was like a scene out of a horror film. I looked over at Barry. He was in the fetal position and silent. That’s when I thought we were both going to die.”
As the 46-year-old mother-of-five added, she and her friend could easily be killed should they go down the slide head-first.
“I nearly went head first – I would have been killed. Every time I banged, I let go of my foot and my shin and more blood came out,” she recalled the time she was desperately calling for help.
As for Barry, he described the ordeal as “unbearable.”
Though no legal action was taken against the pair for breaking into the waterpark, it will take weeks or even months before they recover from the accident.
