Two Wisconsin women had a rough start of 2019 after discovering a stranger sleeping in their dog’s bed as they woke up.
As Lynn Sarver and Elise Diskerud opened their eyes, the first thing they saw was a man cuddling with their 150-pound mastiff named Benton. “I woke up and saw someone over here on this dog bed,” Lynn, the dog’s owner, told a local station.
While Benton didn’t react to the stranger’s presence, the two women immediately called the police and “ran into the kitchen ― grabbed a knife. Then we were scared.”
After reporting the intrusion and contacting the authorities, Lynn and Elise kept an eye on the man who appeared to be unconscious.
“He was out. Even when I went to pull off Benton, the guy didn’t move,” Lynn explained.
After the officers arrived, they woke up the stranger and asked him if he knew who he was and where he was sleeping. The man, who was still suffering the consequences of an alcohol overdose, responded by saying he needed his eyeglasses to see better.
“Once he put them on and looked around, he said, ‘Oh yeah, this is not my house,’” Lynn added.
As it turned out, the man who snuck into the women’s house was their 21-year-old neighbor who lived two houses down the street.
Allegedly, the guy had a bit too much to drink which is why he wasn’t able to differentiate their house from his. He slipped into his neighbors’ house through the unlocked side door and crashed at Benton’s bed.
Fortunately for the 21-year-old, Benton didn’t mind his presence at all. “My dog is pretty smart. He could probably tell this kid wasn’t a threat,” Lynn told the newspaper.
Following the incident, the two women didn’t press any charges. On the contrary, they found the incident to be quite fun!
