A father who was fatally shot while buying baby milk for his child made a heartbreaking call to his wife before succumbing to his gunshot wound.
38-year-old Jorge Hernandez from Phoenix, Arizona, was shot in the hip when a gunman riddled the Family Dollar store the father-of-five was shopping at with bullets.
After getting shot while buying baby milk, the doting father was rushed to the hospital. Sadly, however, he succumbed to his injuries after calling his wife to tell her what had happened.
“I was at work and he calls me through the phone. He tells me that he needs me to go for the kids because he just got shot,” the man’s wife, Marlene Jimenez, recalled in an interview with Fox 10 Phoenix as she opened up about her husband’s final call.
“His last words to me were that I made him the happiest man these ten years, and that he wanted me to take care of his kids for him and that he loved me so much.”
According to Phoenix Police, the incident took place at the Family Dollar located near 83rd Avenue. Besides Hernandez, the officers also came across a woman who was shot by the same gunman. Her injuries were reportedly not life-threatening.
As of this writing, the authorities are still searching for the gunman who drove away in a silver sedan after shooting at the store from the outside.
“If anybody can help us find the person that did this damage, I really do want my husband to have justice because it wasn’t his time to go. He still had a lot to live for,” Jimenez pleaded.
