A dying grandma was left in tears after her granddaughter visited her at the hospital in a wedding dress.
After 25-year-old Bethany Boykin from North Carolina realized that her beloved grandma, 87-year-old Dot ‘Honey’ Beaman, wouldn’t get to live long enough to see her walk down the altar and marry the love of her life, she decided to surprise the elderly lady with an emotional photoshoot.
For the special opportunity, the loving granddaughter put on her wedding dress and took to her grandma’s hospital together with her 27-year-old friend Taylor Dail who is a photographer.
As Bethany revealed, Honey was her last surviving grandparent and she was desperate for her to be a part of the wedding. Since the 87-year-old was already on her deathbed, however, the young woman was forced to act quickly.
In the photos taken at the hospital, the grandmother and her granddaughter are seen struggling to hold back their tears as Honey admires Bethany and her stunning wedding dress.
Following just eight days after the tear-jerking moment, Honey passed away.
“My mom went into her room first and said, ‘Bethany’s here to see you.’ Then I went in and said, ‘Hey Honey, what d’you think?’” the 25-year-old recalled.
“She opened her eyes and that was her reaction in the picture. Her first words were, ‘Oh, it’s beautiful!’ and just kept saying over and over how beautiful it was!
“She wanted to see every detail on that dress, like the hemline where it was altered. She was still in her right mind and she knew who I was and what I was doing, she just wasn’t her normal self. She couldn’t speak as loudly and it took her longer to get things out.”
As the bride added, she always wanted her beloved grandmother to see her get married. Following the senior’s hospitalization over a stroke back in July, however, Bethany knew that the 87-year-old would not recover.
“Even when I kind of knew that she wasn’t going to be at my wedding I still held on to the hope deep down inside that she would make it, but I knew on the outside that it wasn’t realistic,” Bethany added.
“So I made the shoot our moment, and that was more than enough for me.”
