If you’re a driver, you are probably familiar with the horror when an animal suddenly appears in the road.
It’s a relief if that squirrel or rabbit quickly scurries away, but what do you do when the animal simply won’t budge?
That is exactly what the police encountered in Clearwater, Florida, with a bald eagle!
The bird stood still in the midst of moving vehicles, putting herself and the cars in danger. People were confused as to why the eagle wouldn’t fly away, so they called the local police, who realized that she was badly hurt and actually could not get to a safe place on her own.

They guessed that the bird had been feeding on some roadkill when a car hit her. In order to protect her, the police closed two lanes of traffic and called in some professionals to rescue her in the best way possible.
To some people, this might seem like a hassle for just one bird, but the bald eagle is an extremely important species in the United States. Since it is the representative animal of the nation, the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act (1940) was implemented to save the endangered bird from extinction especially due to the pesticide DDT that thinned and weakened the eggshells of eagle offspring.

The eagle’s prior car accident caused bruises and a broken wing bone, which is why she could not fly away.
Thanks to Owl’s Nest Sanctuary for Wildlife, the eagle was able to receive surgery on her wing. At the moment she is too weak to be released, so she will be in their care until she is fully recovered.
Aren’t you glad this beautiful bald eagle was saved? I sure am!
