An old warning written by a paramedic has resurfaced. The warning urges parents to always attach a note to their child’s car seat that contains all the information emergency workers would need to help them.
The medic said the note should include the child’s name, the parents’ names, date of birth, and other important information pertaining to the child’s medical history such as allergies to certain medications or illnesses.
In a Facebook post, the medical technician named Kaitlyn, who is a mom herself, emphasized that this information could prove to be the difference between life and death.
The post reads: “Way too often emergency crews come upon a car wreck with children who are too young to have any information and parents are unconscious.
“It will take two minutes of your time to write out your child’s name, DOB, parents’ name, DOB, emergency contacts and any medical conditions, any meds your child is on and child’s doctor – then stick it to the child’s car seat.
“This helps EMS (Emergency Medical Services) a ton and can also help save your child’s life.”
This important advice was shared last year but such life-saving information has no shelf life and has been making the rounds online again. Parents were quick to thank the emergency worker.
One person commented on the post, writing: “Touch wood we never have to be in this situation but this is a very good idea.”
While another said: “Something to consider. Hopefully, it will never be needed.”
Another one shared the post on their Twitter account, writing: “Saw this on FB and wanted to share it here!! As soon as I read this, I made one to stick on my child’s car seat.”
But another said that while they agreed that it was vital to have the information in the car, it could just be as equally dangerous to keep such personal information in plain sight.
They said: “The only thing I’d do differently is put that info in an envelope, label it EMT / Firefighters and then attach it to the seat. Otherwise, depending on seat location and window configuration, you’ve just given a complete stranger access to some key information.”
Another person also added another piece of advice urging drivers who don’t have children in the car to remove the “baby on board” stickers (these stickers could have come with the vehicle).
“If there was an accident firefighters may be looking for a baby who was never there to start off with,” they said.
