‘Thinking Out Loud’ and ‘Shape of You’ hitmaker Ed Sheeran has become the richest musician under the age of 30 in the UK.
As the Sunday Times Rich List reported, the 29-year-old singer and songwriter made it to the list of top ten wealthiest people in the music industry in the UK.
Sheeran has jumped to the tenth place overall, and the first place in the category of musicians under 30, after his wealth rose by a whopping £40 million, adding up to the total value of £200 million ($244 million).
According to the report, the top of the list is now occupied by Lord Lloyd Webber and Sir Paul McCartney who share the first spot with a wealth of £800 million each.
Meanwhile, singer Rihanna has taken over third place with her £468 million fortune and became the richest female musician in the country.
Back to Sheeran, the ‘Perfect’ hitmaker has previously announced he’s going to take a break from music to focus on his private life.
“As you may or not know, I’ve been on the Divide tour for over two years now and this is the last day of the whole thing. There is something very bittersweet about it. I love that you guys are here and we are ending it in Ipswich. This is my last gig for probably 18 months,” the signer expressed during the last leg of his Divide tour.
As for the reasons behind the singer’s decision, reports suggest Sheeran wants some time off to be with his wife, Cherry Seaborn.
In an Instagram post, the singer also addressed his fans to make sure they know he isn’t retiring.
“I’m not bloody retiring either, press are being over dramatic. I’m having 18 months off to make another album and hang out with my cats,” he wrote.
