The horrific kidnapping and disappearances of 43 students in 2014 at the rural village of Ayotzinapa, all of them male pedagogy students have shocked the world in two ways: at the sheer cruel unfathomable intentions of the kidnappers at the wonder of why would anyone want to kidnap educational college students for no reason, and the sheer inept ability and corruptness of the Mexican government to handle the case, which found no bodies.
6 years after the incident, the man responsible has finally been apprehended, bringing a brief gust of hope for the families of these students.
The man responsible for the heinous crime s Angel Casarrubias Salgado, aka ‘El Mochomo’, the leader of the cartel-terrorist group Guerreros Unidos. He has been detained at the central Mexican State of Mexico, who had finally been captured after a hunt for his head finally ceased, the bounty amounting to nearly 3500 dollars. The whereabouts of the students are still at a mystery.
The kidnapping would not have happened if not for the existence of a corrupt police on their way to a protest at the time, who met with the students and then held them against their will. Then these bribed officers turned the 43 students over to Guerreros Unidos Cartel, never to be seen again. The local rumors and intelligence reports said that El Mochomo had indeed finalized the victims’ fate by ordering their execution, but their body has yet been found.
The changes in government policing standards were brought after the new president of Mexico Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador came into power, ordering the reinvestigation of the marred case.point 264 |
The cartel was a family-run business, with El Mochomo’s brother Sidronio incarcerated in 2014 as the main suspect of the kidnapping, but later was brought to redemption after successfully proving in court that he was tortured for a fake confession executed by corrupt officials.point 241 | 1
Founded by the third brother Mario alias ‘El Sapo Guapo’ (The handsome toad), the illegal gang has then been run by the fourth brother Adan Zenenalias ‘El Tomate’ (the tomato) after Mario and Sidronio’s arrest. He was also captured in 2015 shortly afterwards. The fifth brother Alfredo, who is an officer in the army, has requested for non-disclosure to the general public due to the ‘right to privacy.’
