What do you think of care facilities?
Everyone would agree that care facilities exist to provide support and care for the person in need.
Unfortunately, news from all around the world continue to report various cases of abuse, leaving many in shock.
Despite such news, however, Camille Parent never dreamed that his mother would be the victim of such abuse.
As a businessman in Peterborough, Ontario, Camille had placed his mother in a private room at St.
Joseph’s at Fleming long-term care home. At that time, Camille’s mother was 89-year-sold, and was suffering from Alzheimer’s.
Since St. Joseph’s at Fleming was known for being one of the most caring and professional facility, Camille thought that his mother would be well-taken care of.

When Camille visited his mother, though, he found some bruising on the face of her.
Since Camille didn’t get any reasonable explanation from the facility, he decided to install a hidden camera in his mother’s room. He left it there for three weeks, and then reviewed the footage.
When he watched the tapes, he was completely in shock and horror.
Not only were the other residents from the facility abusing his mother, but her caretakers were also involved in such act.
The video showed other residents taking his mother’s stuff from her room, and staff members physically abusing her.

After watching the video, Camille showed the video to the CEO of St. Joseph’s.
The CEO responded by saying:
“Based on what I see on the preliminary investigation, it is totally unacceptable and I will make sure that actions are taken to prevent any such abuse in the future.”
It is well known that many caregivers experience enormous amounts of stress from being overworked. However, that should not be the reason why certain caregivers abuse the elders who need help.
Elder abuse is one of the serious issues that we should all be thinking about.
