A 75-year-old man with Parkinson’s disease has been arrested after he shot his wife.
Thomas Jarboe confessed to shooting his wife 63-year-old Kay Saw in their home in Bellevue.
The retired physics professor, who has amnesia and advanced Parkinson’s disease, told officers that he was just acting in ‘self-defense’ as Saw was ‘destroying me’ and ‘abusing me.’
According to KOMO News, Jarboe was waiting for police to turn himself in after he called 911. He then told cops that his wife was ‘abusing me’ and that he was angered because she hated his children.
“It was on purpose but in self defense, Jarboe told the 911 operator, stating that he had shot his wife with a 12-gauge shotgun,” he explained.
“She has been abusing me, she is my caretaker, and is completely destroying me. She hates all my kids, my kids all hate her.”
The woman reportedly suffered two gunshot wounds.
A spokesperson for the police, Meeghan Black, said: “The man came out of the house willingly and turned himself in to the officers. When they went inside, they found his wife deceased inside.”
Many neighbors have paid tribute to his wife who they described as a ‘hospitable person.’
One neighbor, Mike Hopkins, said to KOMO News: “She was very hospitable. Brought fruit over. Befriended my son.”
But he also said that something was off with the couple in the past months.
“Often times yelling about medications. Not taking medications. Or altercations thereof,” he said. “I think everyone in the neighborhood is broken up to say the least. My heart goes out to the family. I can’t even imagine what that must be like.”
A judge set Jarboe’s bail at $2.5 million. He will remain in custody until his next court appearance.
