The elf on the shelf trend has been going on for many years now and there is hardly anyone who hasn’t heard of it.

But with passing time, there are lesser and lesser ideas regarding the elf that can keep children properly engaged and entertained.

Thankfully, one clever mom has suggested a novel idea of ‘trapping’ the elf in an electronic device. The only thing you need to apply this great idea is an Amazon Echo aka Alexa.

The mom named Suz shared a video of the clever idea on Facebook.

Describing the idea, she wrote in the caption of the video: “FYI to all parents using the elf this year. If you have an Alexa go to the app. Settings>my profile.

“Change your name to the name of your elf. Then go to messages (communicate). Type a message from the elf. Then ask Alexa: ‘Alexa play my messages’. The elf talks to your kids.”

The ‘elf’ can be heard saying: “I’ve spoken to Santa and told him that you were a good girl for Granny Linda and Aunt Ginny today.

“He says you have to go to bed nicely tonight and sleep all night.”

In case you miss to program a message into the ‘elf’ one night, Suz has a trick for you. There’s a previous message that says: “Hi Sienna. I was too tired to move last night. Sorry.”

That would do for two days and if you want to keep the elf busy for some more time, you can do that by trapping her on the TV. You’d just need a smart TV and YouTube to make that work.

Now, the next morning when your kids get out of their beds, the elf will be there to surprise them from inside the TV, asking them: “I hit the wrong button on the remote… how do I get out of here?”

The best thing is, you don’t even need to make a video to play on the TV. Just search for ‘Elf Stuck in TV’ on YouTube and you’ll get the video you want.

But do remember to hide Alexa before all that.
