In 2015, Ellen Degeneres gave an audience member one of the most emotional surprises to ever take place on the show.
The guest, Mary, had no idea that her visit to the “The Ellen Show” would result in such an incredible day.
The surprise started when Ellen picked up the phone and it was none other than Chris, Mary’s husband, on the other end. He explained that he had been away for military training in Missouri for months, and because of that, he would miss their wedding anniversary for the very first time. It was their 10th anniversary.

Chris’ conversation with Ellen wasn’t long, but he asked Ellen to make the day special for Mary, to help him make up for the missed anniversary.
After hanging up, Ellen invited Mary to join her on stage, where she explained that Chris is away training.point 220 |
Mary talks about wanting to be able to see Chris more often with their two little boys, but explains that the car they currently drive is in no condition to make the journey and wouldn’t trust it to go anywhere further than the grocery store.point 204 |
That was a big problem, since Chris was training six-hours away by car, a lot further than Mary would be willing to risk her life and the lives of her sons to see her father.point 142 | Her dinky car had clocked over 220,000 miles, always had its check engine light on, and would even create a mysterious smoke in the back! Needless to say, this car was on its last leg, and the only way the children have an opportunity to make contact with Chris is when he is able to send a postcard home every few weeks.point 402 | 1
That’s when Ellen decides surprises her with something that would change her life!
Ellen peels away the walls to reveal a brand new Ford Escape for Mary and her family!

As if the day could get any better, Ellen had another surprise in store for Mary and it makes her go absolutely NUTS!
