One of the celebrities whose stock has seen a dramatic downfall in recent months is Ellen DeGeneres, host of the beloved TV show that bears her name.
Following a report in which staff disclosed the toxic environment, other anecdotal evidence of diva attitude is surfacing.
The newest addition to Ellen’s saga of being less than generous backstage comes from Neil Breen, who used to produce the “Today” show in Australia.
Breen was in charge of the program when DeGeneres made an appearance on the show in 2013. According to a radio interview, Breen claimed that Ellen’s producers pulled him to the side and said no one is to talk to the host. Moreover, no one was to even make eye contact with her.
Moreover, these rather ludicrous demands came after Breen’s American counterparts already greatly diminished Ellen’s involvement in the show. DeGeneres was supposed to co-host a show in Sydney, but later compromised to just an interview in Melbourne.
Breen recalled how confused he was at the demands that Ellen’s team was making. He said he found it bizarre he never got to speak or work with DeGeneres during the whole process.
Furthermore, Ellen’s crew reportedly was in charge of the entire interview from the questions to even logistical aspects such as the seating and lighting. Breen rather sarcastically remarked he doesn’t really know Ellen because he never got to know, let alone speak, with her.
Saying that he has absolutely no authority over evaluating the personality of DeGeneres, Breen did say that he found the whole situation is to be weird and unprecedented. He described the situation as everyone “walking on eggshells” when Ellen was involved.
Although 7 years have passed since he had to work with DeGeneres, Breen said he still can’t understand how his crew was not even allowed to look at her when Ellen was coming on to their show to promote her work.
This is yet another negative story for the TV host who famously ends every show of hers by asking everyone to be kind. From negative anecdotes by a former bodyguard to her former crew members, along with her own mishaps during the quarantine, her image has greatly declined.
