Juno star Elliot Page has filed for divorce from his wife Emma Porter only two months after he came out as trans.
They have been together since 2017 and they tied the knot in a secret ceremony in 2018.
The Umbrella Academy actor was seeking to dissolve his marriage to the 26-year-old professional dancer who supported his decision to come out as transgender and non-binary in December.
In a statement to Daily Mail, Emma and Elliot revealed that they have decided to make their separation official as they have already split last summer.
“After much thought and careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to divorce following our separation last summer,” the statement said.
“We have the utmost respect for each other and remain close friends.”
Elliot and Emma deleted all photos of one another from their Instagram pages before releasing the statement but they still follow each other.
The Juno star announced on December 20 last year that his name was changed from Ellen to Elliot.
“Hi friends, I want to share with you that I am trans, my pronouns are he/they and my name is Elliot,” he wrote. “I feel lucky to be writing this. To be here. To have arrived at this place in my life.
“I feel overwhelming gratitude for the incredible people who have supported me along this journey,” he continued. “I can’t begin to express how remarkable it feels to finally love who I am enough to pursue my authentic self.
“I’ve been endlessly inspired by so many in the trans community. Thank you for your courage, your generosity and ceaselessly working to make this world a more inclusive and compassionate place.
“I will offer whatever support I can and continue to strive for a more loving and equal society.”
Emma praised him for finally coming out as trans and reshared his announcement, saying she is “so proud” of him.
““Trans, queer and non-binary people are a gift to this world,” she wrote at that time.
“I also ask for patience & privacy but that you join me in the fervent support of trans life every single day. Elliot’s existence is a gift in and of itself. Shine on sweet E. Love you so much.”
