Elon Musk and Grimes have announced that they have split up after spending three years together.
Elon Reeve Musk, 50, is an entrepreneur and business magnate. He is the founder, CEO, and Chief Engineer at SpaceX and CEO and Product Architect of Tesla, Inc.
Claire Boucher, 33, better known by her stage name, Grimes, is a Canadian singer and producer. She’s also an outspoken advocate for female artists and their treatment by the press and music industry.
“We are semi-separated but still love each other, see each other frequently, and are on great terms,” The SpaceX CEO told the New York Post. “It’s mostly that my work at SpaceX and Tesla requires me to be primarily in Texas or traveling overseas and her work is primarily in LA. She’s staying with me now and Baby X is in the adjacent room.”
Grimes has also been busy, as she recently started shooting episodes for a new Fox competition show called Alter Ego. She serves as one of the competition judges.
The couple was last seen together at the Met Gala earlier this month, though Grimes walked the red carpet alone and Elon also attended the event but only joined her inside.
He later threw a starry Met Gala afterparty at hot private members club Zero Bond, where he was joined by Grimes, and the duo was photographed leaving New York together the following day.
But last weekend, Elon attended a party thrown by Google co-founder Sergey Brin’s wife, Nicole Shanahan, alone.
The couple met over Twitter. Elon was planning to make a joke about artificial intelligence and discovered that Grimes had beaten him to the punch through the Rococo Basilisk character from her “Flesh Without Blood” music video.
Elon and Grimes first went official with their relationship in May 2018 at the Met Gala, when they were photographed in matching monochrome outfits.
Shortly before the annual Costume Institute Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Page Six reported that the pair had been “quietly dating” for a few weeks.
Two years later, on May 5, 2020, the couple announced the arrival of their little boy, Elon’s sixth child. Originally called X Æ A-12, the baby was then officially named X AE A-XII Musk, according to a birth certificate.
The official name came after Grimes revealed that she and Elon were asked to change their baby son’s name to comply with California law.
Explaining the name, Grimes previously said that “X” refers to “the unknown variable,” while “Æ” is “my elven spelling of Ai (love or Artificial intelligence)”. The name appeared to be partially inspired by one of the songs from 33-year-old Grimes’ last album – 4ÆM.
She recently revealed that welcoming her baby with Elon has opened her up to a whole new world of creativity.
I think having a baby was a big kind of like rebirth for me, like artistically,” Grimes told Vogue as she was getting ready for the Met Gala. “Like, it just like, I don’t know.”
Grimes recently shared a rare video of Baby X as part of a teaser for her latest track SHINIGAMI.
The one-year-old could be seen at the very beginning of the clip holding a glass of water as he turns away from the camera before the clip cuts to Grimes taking in a number of different locations on holiday, thought to have been in Italy following her and Elon’s trip there for his 50th birthday.
Elon told The Wall Street Journal that he loves Grimes for her “wild fae artistic creativity and hyperintense work ethic,” while Grimes described Elon as “a super-interesting goddamn person.”
In an interview in 2020, Grimes revealed she wasn’t taking any financial help from her then-boyfriend Elon. She claimed she admired how he lived his life and put his money “into making the world better” to Business Insider.
Grimes clarified that Elon does not fund her career and that she would feel guilty if he were to “divert funds from, like, Tesla to my stupid art project.”
“Grimes is funded by Grimes,” she said. “I can’t say the things I say and believe what I believe and then take money from my boyfriend.”
The tech magnate also shares five sons with his ex-wife, Justine Wilson: twins Griffin and Xavier, 17, and triplets Damian, Saxon, and Kai, 15.
He was also married twice to “Westworld” actress Talulah Riley. They first wed in 2010 but divorced in 2012. They reconciled a year later, remarried in 2013, and divorced again in 2016.
