Sir Elton John has announced pledging $1 million to his AIDS Foundation in hopes that other sufferers won’t be forgotten while the coronavirus pandemic is ravaging the planet.
As the 73-year-old pop icon revealed during a live-streamed episode of Miley Cyrus’ Bright Minded, he fears that people suffering from AIDS could be forgotten amid the ongoing battle with coronavirus.
“I’m going to stick to my guns with the Aids Foundation and make sure because of this global pandemic that’s happening that the people who are suffering from another global pandemic don’t get forgotten,” the Rocket Man hitmaker told the Hannah Montana actress via a video call.
“That’s what my foundation has tried to do, help the marginalized, help the poor, help the people who mustn’t get left behind.
“That is my main focus in the next three months, to make sure these people on the HIV and Aids lifeline we give them, don’t get forgotten.”
While the 73-year-old recently expressed interest in assisting AIDS sufferers, he also played a vital role in raising funds for the victims of COVID-19 by hosting Fox’s iHeart Living Room Concert for America.
The charity music event was attended by renowned performers such as the Backstreet Boys, Camila Cabello, Mariah Carey, Lady Gaga, Alicia Keys, and more.
Through donations, the performers were able to raise over $8 million for First Responders Children’s Foundation and Feeding America, organizations that are under tremendous pressure amid the coronavirus pandemic.
